If I find any markings on mine can you identify any of them? Mine was from my Grandma who's Dad was a blacksmith. A buddy of mine has a large Blackjack anvil made by Hay Budden and marketed through the Shapleigh hardware stores. ACME was a moniker used by Sears and they were a catalog order item. I have an anvil made by Trenton that says ACME on the side. A lot of them made anvils for hardware companies that bore the hardware co name instead of the maker which further complicates identification. Good anvils that are slightly softer than a Hay Budden or Trenton since the Peter Wright are solid wrought vs the tool steel faces on the others. Peter Wrights were highly regarded and one of the most popular anvils imported to the USA, so you will be able to find lots of information. England passed a law that starting in 1910 everything made for export had to be marked Made in England, so your anvil was made prior to 1910. You can only judge by shape on some of these. Im glad you knew what to look for when you checked it out. It measures 21 1/2' long by 3 3/4' wide and 9 1/4' tall. The signature on the side is very good and the stone weight is 0-3-19 which is 103 lbs. There were several that had very few to no markings. I am very pleased to offer yo another great blacksmith anvil that actually belonged to a blacksmith of over 40 years and is a signed Peter Wright.
